Sweden issues two stamps each year to mark the 60th anniversary of the Nobel Prize awards. Ern was awarded the 1908 prize in Chemistry for his investigations into the disintegration of the elements, and the chemistry of radioactive substances. Ilya Mechikov and Paul Ehrlich shared the prize in physiology and medicine for their work on immunity. Gabriel Lippmann (the physics prize for developing colour photography via optical interference) and Rudolf Eucken (the literature prize) appear on the green 45 ore stamp.
