Rutherfordine (UO2)CO3

This yellow mineral, uranyl carbonate, from the then German East Africa was named for Rutherford in 1906 by Dr Marckwald. Its crystal structure is orthorhombic Pmmn with a = 0.485nm, b = 0.9205nm and c = 0.4296nm. Z=2. Normally yellow to amber lathe like crystals up to 3mm in length. It has been reported in Tanzania, Zaire and the Northern Territory of Australia.

Note that the mineral Rutherfordite is not named for our Ern but for Rutherford County, North Carolina.
