My Comments on This Book.
This book is the proceedings of the Rutherford Jubilee Conference held at the University
of Manchester in September of 1961 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Rutherford
scattering and the discovery of the atomic nucleus. Several of his Manchester colleagues
reminisce about his work and his discoveries at Manchester; including Ernest
Marsden, Niels Bohr, Charles Darwin and Edward Andrade. Previous Rutherford Memorial
Lectures by Robinson, Russell, Blackett and Bohr are also reproduced, as are the important
papers published by Rutherford and his co-workers at Manchester, including Moseley and
Geiger, and a listing of all of Rutherford's publications. A listing of all papers
published from the physics lab at Manchester during the period 1907-1919 gives information
not only as to what else was going on in the lab but also the modesty of Rutherford, who
often never put his name on papers covering researches which he had initiated.
This is a very valuable source of information for the Manchester period of Rutherford's
life and work. .
